Dior Creative

‘Dior’ has been a handle I’ve used over time, with friends, as a nod to my creative self: Denise Raftery DR!

I have spent forty Septembers in the classroom in Ireland and other countries, occasionally; twenty-five of those in Adult & Continuing Education. Teaching has been a career I have loved and which I targeted from childhood.

Since early retirement in 2017, I have had opportunities to avail of Adult and Continuing education for myself. This unplanned journey has led me down some creative paths and I feel as if I have been give an opportunity to take “the road not travelled” from when I was 17 and filling out a CAO University application.

In 2019 I completed a H Dip in Advanced Languages and Global Communication in UCC, followed by a Media Production Traineeship, ‘as gaeilge’, in An Spidéal, in Connemara. This was a challenging and very cool adventure!

It in turn led to a Work Experience with a local newspaper. I got to have a six week memoir feature in the late summer of 2021.

September 2021 finds me, back in UCC again, doing a post-grad diploma in Digital Arts & Humanities!

“..Knowing how way leads on to way,” there is a new adventure ahead in this creative space!

“I shall be telling this ….somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood and I-

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

(Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken)
